The autonomous figural sculptures of Johann Joachim Kaendler and his workshop between 1731 and 1748
Dr Sarah-Katharina Andres-Acevedo
In May 2023, the two-volume publication of Sarah-Katharina Andres-Acevedo’s dissertation entitled “Die autonomen figürlichen Plastiken Johann Joachim Kaendlers und seiner Werkstatt zwischen 1731 und 1748” will be published by arnoldsche Art Publishers in Stuttgart. Volume I gives an overview of the founding history of the manufactory and presents the development of autonomous figural sculpture. The volume concludes with a complete transcription of J.F. Eberlein’s, J.G. Ehder’s and P. Reinicke’s work reports up to the year 1748. Based on the work reports of Kaendler and his first collaborators, a catalogue comprising 998 models was created, which is presented in volume 2. In her lecture, the author will talk about the results of her research work, its systematics, the development process and the problems associated with it.
