Restoring Woburn Abbey and its Collections

Matthew Hirst, Curator Woburn Abbey

In November 2019 Woburn Abbey closed to visitors to undergo a major programme of restoration and refurbishment. Works are still underway — the house has undergone a transformation — and when it reopens in the Spring of 2024 the collections, much of which will have been conserved, will be redisplayed to dramatic effect. Matthew Hirst will highlight some of the changes that can be expected and the discoveries that have been made along the way, and give a flavour of how the wonderful collection of Sèvres porcelain will be shown.
