The Rosalind Scarf by Rory Hutton
Created in collaboration with the French Porcelain Society, the Rosalind scarf is a tribute to Dame Rosalind Savill – renowned scholar, former Director of the Wallace Collection and world authority on Sèvres porcelain. She also served as President of the French Porcelain Society, championing scholarship and international collaboration in the decorative arts.
Illustrated by Rory Hutton, the design draws inspiration from Rosalind’s life and passions, incorporating Rococo motifs, flowers, and ribbons – a visual homage to the elegance, intellect, and exuberance she brought to her field.
The scarf, a celebration of Rosalind’s love for Vincennes and Sèvres porcelain, includes depictions of the factory’s tour-de-force vases à tête d’éléphant and pot pourri gondole, a théière Calabre bearing the mongram RS, and a pommade box and vergette from the toilet service probably intended for Madame de Pompadour, all of which are represented in the Wallace Collection.
Featured in the June 2025 issue of The World of Interiors, the scarf was described as:
“a Rococo stream of flowers and ribands – expertly illustrated by Rory Hutton – in her heavenly trail.”
Profits from the sale of each scarf will support the Dame Rosalind Savill Scholarship, established in her memory through the Attingham Trust, which helps early-career scholars and museum professionals undertake specialist study in the decorative arts – continuing Dame Rosalind’s legacy of fostering excellence in the next generation.
