SÈVRES PORCELAIN PURCHASED BY THE DUCHESSE DE MAZARIN
Cyrille Froissart
The duchesse de Mazarin, great-grandniece of cardinal de Mazarin and daughter-in-law of the duc d’Aumont, lived in the château de Chilly and, from 1767, in the Parisian hôtel de Mazarin, quai Malaquais. Upon moving into her hôtel particulier, the duchesse entirely renovated its interiors, commissioning furniture in the latest fashion.
In this lecture, we will discuss the pieces of Sèvres porcelain purchased by the duchesse de Mazarin, from the 1750s until her death in 1781. Cyrille Froissart will walk us though her two residences, and will examine the material qualities, display and surroundings of the duchesse’s porcelain collection.
