Report: Visit to the Wallace Collection
Memories of a special tour at the start of the new year
On 17 January a group of 15 of us had the pleasure of participating in a special collaborative tour led by Rosalind Savill and Helen Jacobsen, examining the Sèvres-mounted pieces of furniture in the Wallace Collection and learning about the cabinetmakers, their techniques and the Sèvres porcelain incorporated in the furniture.
An absolute highlight was experiencing the wonderful engineering of Martin Carlin’s music or writing table/stand, as curatorial assistant Félix Zorzo and Helen Jacobsen revealed its intelligent mechanics by raising and rotating the top section.
