FPS Summer Outing 2024: Waddesdon Manor

Dr Mia Jackson will welcome FPS members to Waddesdon Manor with a special visit of the exhibition Flights of Fancy: Birds at Waddesdon (22 May – 27 October 2024). Starting with a section dedicated to the aristocratic pursuit of keeping and displaying exotic birds in aviaries, the exhibition’s core is centered around the Sèvres painter Louis-Denis Armand l’aîné (active 1746-1788), whose work is extensively represented in the Rothschild collection at Waddesdon. In addition to vases and to the special display of the Razumovsky service in the Dining Room, visitors will be able to approach Armand’s fanciful birds through a selection of his drawings, never seen in public before. A real coup in the ceramic world!
The programme for the day is as follows:
10.30 – Arrival
11:00 – 13:00 – Viewing of Exhibitions
13:00 – 14:30 – Buffet Lunch
14:30 – 16:30 – Tour of the ground floor of the Manor, Aviary and Gardens
16:30 – 17:00 – Drinks courtesy of Mia Jackson

Arriving at Waddesdon
Each member will organise their own travel arrangements.
There are parking spaces available if you choose to arrive by car.
Trains from London Marylebone to Aylesbury Vale Parkway depart at 08:57 and arrive at 10:03.
There are return trains from Aylesbury Vale Parkway at 17:35 and 17:58. Off-peak return tickets are £29.
